My first Comanche. 91/ax15/4.0/4x4/lwb

I've looked on and off for Comanches for the last 8-9 years and and have had multiple Jeep's but never pulled the trigger on an MJ. I currently have a 98 Cherokee and I'm trying to decide what to do with as I'm contemplating taking the axles/steering and front bumper off of it and then selling it.

 

 

But on to the new rig. Picked it up a couple weeks ago. Drove down with one of my best buddies (a fellow Comanche bro) to Eugene Oregon from the Seattle WA area. A nice 12 hour round trip with stops haha.

 

 

It has 169k miles and was listed at $2800 and I confirmed I wanted to come down on Saturday (we talked on Wednesday night) and get it. Asked just a hand full of questions and it was all good enough for me. I really wanted a 91+ so I knew I'd likely need to do some work to make it as nice as I wanted.

 

 

 

 

This was loaded and on the trailer heading back. It had no clutch fluid to speak of and the bench seat was god freaking awful. I'm glad I trailered it.

 

 

Got it home and pulled into the garage. First thing was to try and bleed the clutch and I thought I broke the bleeder so it sat for a minute but I had a neighbor look while I was mad about it and figured out all I did was break it loose like I was trying. But I didn't have time to bleed it.

 

 

Later that week my buddy sent me a link of a totaled Comanche in Canada with 18k original miles on it. My grey interior smelled like dirty dog so I was happy to swap it out and I liked the idea of blue on tan.

 

 

This was the first dash swap I've done but overall it wasn't all that bad. And I even got it all done right the first time as everything including the hvac haha. I was surprised but happy about it.

Found a couple pinholes of rust. Por-15'd the floor and all the rust. Then used a metal epoxy to patch the small damage.

 

Today I finished the interior swap and fixed an oil leak. The oil filter adapter was leaking like a siv.

 

 

 

 

I also got the ebrake mechanism out of the 18k mile rig too. I think I could have saved mine as it it still latched but came out easy. So it's on the shelf as a backup. I was missing the release handle when I got mine so I'm happy to have the whole setup now and it works perfectly.

 

 

Overall I'm pretty happy with the rig. I need to figure out my oil pressure and temp gauge issues. Neither works. The oil pressure starts out around 38lbs and then pins all the way right. I've replaced the temp sensor in the head and the oil pressure sender and both gauges. I'm at a loss but it worries about it right this second.

 

 

 

Have some deciding to do as to whether I make it my wheeler or get some smaller tires and just use it as my truck. And enjoy it.

 

 

I'll update as I do more. I cleaned it up a little today too but didn't take many pictures of that.

Looking good, are you north or south of seattle? I'm in lakewood. Dunno what your plans are but I have a good condtion rear bumper you can have if you want

Yeah I'm up north in Monroe. I may take you up on that. I haven't decided what I want to do with the rear end yet. Thinking a thin metal bumper. But not sure. I appreciate the offer.

 

 

I'm contemplating bobbing it if I make it a wheeler. But I like the factory stripe package and would hate to ruin that.

Thanks. It's miles above the old stuff and I really like the color. It's only recently I started to like tan interior. It feels so much brighter inside haha. Especially with both B pillar lights working haha.

 

And it doesn't stink! I pieced the mat together under the carpet so it's all good non wet/rusty stinky atuff.

So got a little work done this week/weekend.

 

Put some shackles to level out the rig. It's not quite level, but much closer.

 

 

 

With these tires it doesn't look so bad but then today, I picked up a smaller set of tires and some stock jeep wheels. They make the truck feel faster (as you'd imagine) but don't look quite right. I'll run them for a while tho as the tread is good and I don't plan to regear anytime soon.

 

 

 

 

 

While I was picking up the wheels/tires I mentioned I needed a bumper and he had one. Brand new. Doesn't mount as strongly but i don't plan to use it for heavy towing or recovery.

 

 

 

 

 

Figured out my oil pressure gauge issue but now I'm left with the temp gauge still not working. That's the last thing. Then it's on to modifying if I want to. Not sure the direction I want to go yet tho.

Finally gave the truck a proper bath. Cleans up nice. Wish it didn't have the normal clear coat issues but I like none the less.

 

Next thing to do is to remove the brush guard thing. It looks hideous.
