gai092460 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Hi My Fellow Comanche I. just recently had mad my 1988 Jeep. Comanche 4 L automatic trans rebuilt $2,200 later the trans shifts perfectly up. until. I. switch the power trans switch on. the dash. board it then. starts slipping like crazy , The trans shop. is saying its electrical. because his claim. is the trans is perfect its something with the switch ,Please ideas Thanks George
cruiser54 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 The switch only changes the timing of the shifts. Unless when the TCU gets that Power signal the power is shorted to something else in the TCU?
gai092460 Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 I will ask. the repair shop ,is there difference in performance ?
ParadiseMJ Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Manufacturer specs for an 88 AW4, it's Dex III (or Dex/Merc) not a Chrysler. Aisin/warner (aka Toyota) In newer Chrysler trannies it's ATF+4 (not Dex) I have not experienced the difference in ATF+4 in an AW4, but I've heard, read, that it can cause harm, maybe permanent...not sure.

Another thread on CC said to check an inline fuse under the passenger-side dash. Mine was tripped. Replaced it then unhooked positive battery cable then reconnected it and now it's back to normal.
cruiser54 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Your Power/Comfort switch may be bad. I would bypass it: http://cruiser54.com/?p=435
