3.55's with 2.5 and Automatic??

I just looked at a mj and the tag on the front diff said 3.54, It is a 2.5 I4 with an automatic (torqueflight not aw4 I think??) I was expecting anything with a I4 and 4x4 to be 4.10 or 4.56 am I wrong or were these axles swapped out?

weird things came in the early years but seems more likely a swap has occured.  what year is it?
