Installed Headlight Harness, no Highbeams

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this issue has happened before and been addressed. I did search for it.  Installed the Putco Headlight Harness, cleaned the paint off for grounds, made sure everything is connected good. Followed Cruisers instructions. Low beams work fine. When I turn on High beams the blue light comes on in the dash. the passenger side light comes on the no light on Drivers side. I checked the fuse and it looks intact. Am I missing something? High beams did work before install.

Some of those harnesses came with defective headlamp / relay sockets. If one side is working, the high beam relay is triggering and passing voltage. Got a meter or test light? Turn the high beams on and backprobe the headlight connector on the bad side to check for 12V on the high beam connector pin. If you have voltage, the headlamp itself could have gone bad. If no voltage start tracing it back to the high beam relay.

I put a harness on my CJ.  While driving one night, I hit the high beams...the road went dark.  Turned out one of the wires was poorly connected in the in the relay socket.

Pulled out the wire.  Made a better connection.  Re-attached to the socket.  I had high beams!

Thank you Hornbrod.  I used a meter, and the Headlamp itself was bad. I had bought new ones so ofcourse assumed they were good. Put old one in and works fine. Simple fix, Greatly appreciate it.
