removing abs parts.

Recommended Posts

So the parts Xj that I used had the bendix abs system. so the engine bay brake area looks like this (for those who haven't seen it)

I drove the part's XJ for a monthly or so before dismantling it to make sure everything works, the brakes worked very well, but the abs not at all,

So my question is. Can I remove/bypass all the abs components from the engine bay and just use the reservoir and the electric brake pump

pic of pump

Thanks.

1. I wouldn't use any of the ABS stuff in the engine compartment.

2. I would do a 95 XJ dual diaphragm booster conversion.

3. Last resort, keep all the MJ stuff, and do the rear proportioning valve delete.

option 3 is my backup plan

Probably the best till you get a 95 XJ booster. Hope you aint planning on trying to use any of the ABS stuff, pump etc, its all or none, even if the ABS isn't working proper (no anti lock feature). You could end up paying a lot of money to make the ABS work and IMHO aint worth the cost to get the benefit if you can get the ABS to work. If it's a safety issue, you should get a more modern vehicle with a better engineered ABS system.

oh well, I only wanted it because it was a little more compact.

The later (dual diaphragm) booster is the exact opposite of compact, just a FYI. Probably the best compact option is a hydroboost setup, but they are typically pricey as I am not aware of a junkyard option that doesn't need modifying to work.

I'm probably going to keep the stock system until I find something better that I like.
