banshee
Are the new 96 and up CV's stronger, than our old Ujoints 2nd if so what would I have to change to run them Thanks
Eagle
You're referring to the CVs from the Grand Cherokee, I assume? The late-model Cherokees still used u-joints. I believe the ZJ CVs are considered smoother but weaker than the late model u-joints.
Incommando
Just get later big-joint XJ or TJ shafts. The 297 u-joint is measurably stronger than the 260's that came stock
gogmorgo
From my observations, the CV's are mostly considered weaker because if they break, you have to replace the entire shaft, not just the joint like you might be able to get away with on a u-joint. The boots can also get compromised pretty easily and trap moisture and grime, which will lead to premature failure of the joint. I've never managed to take out a u-joint without also blowing apart the yoke, and really appreciate the smoothness of the CV's on the road. I've just got the cheap Sur-track replacement ones that RockAuto listed for my MJ. They've worked great for the last 5000 miles.
