Strokermjcomanche
88 swb 4.0 with metric ton rear leafs and 3 inches of lift up front . I'm staying SUA I purchased a 4.10 XJ 8.25 axle that I need to cut the spring perches off and weld the new ones on at the correct width and angle . I already have the new mopar perches too . Does anyone have a schematic or write up on this ? I have angle finders and a buddy with a 220 mig welder .Normally I would copy the axle that's already in the truck once I pulled it out but I would like to have this axle ready to bolt in and it will save time . Thanks in advance .
HOrnbrod
The perch distance apart of course is no problem; just copy the existing perches. The using the angle finders compare the relationship between the existing diff pinion angle using housing flats and the top flat of the existing spring perches. Then replicate the angle relationship on the new axle. You can get it real close doing this, then fine tune it later with steel wedges if the pinion angle is a bit too high or low. There's a good article here: http://www.4xshaft.com/tech_slopesVSangles.asp
