87MJTIM
87 5sp but what engine? 4.0 or 2.5. If 4.0 and a stock trans, you have BA10/5. Most people will say it is not worth fixing. Look for an AX15 from a later model XJ, preferable one with an external slave. If 2.5, then it would have come with an AX5. Beyond that, I don't know. gunparts
I do not know how to tell if the slave is releasing or not, the clutch works fine ( Truck Moves) and I can move between the transfer gears.

chris71
this prolly won't help much but i have an 87 with the 4.0 and ba10/5 , 2 years ago mine got stuck between first and second and i was not able to even move the truck. i ended up pulling the trans and spliting the case to find the problem ,what i found was the first second shift fork had worn the tabs off one side and ended up twisted checked the forks all had badly worn tabs . i had called around and actully found new shift forks at blumenthals (of all places ). bought them and replaced the forks along with all the bearing . after reinstalling it shifts good to this day ( oh mine is 2wd ) , and this coming march i'm swapping to ax15 and 4wd conversion . anyways that was just my experience with a stuck gear in a ba10/5 , i hope yours does not have this same problem . gunparts
I looked at the brake fluids and it look full, I tried pulling the truck backwards and it is still stuck, looks like I will change it to a ax-15.
