89 MJ 2WD Zombies! ZAV

Recommended Posts

Picked up this 89 Comanche Pioneer 2WD a few months ago cheap from original owner. Has 88,000 miles on it with all the normal NY rust you can imagine. I6 4.0L with automatic column shift with power mode! Stock everything down to the FM radio and two speakers. It does have a long bed that is very rusty.

I originally intended to do a simple restoration but then said screw it and make it like my XJ ZAV.

So here's my to-do list in no particular order.

New Bluetooth head unit for Christmas. $20 gift from parents.

New Polk speakers for front and rear.

New coolant bottle and Volvo cap.

New steering wheel added.

New visor clip to hold passenger visor up.

Thumb tacks for saggy headliner.

New 235/75R15s with Laredo wheels to match XJ.

Small CB radio to talk to XJ with.

New long bed from Rochester of all places.

Tinted windows from good shop for $100.

Upgrade interior lights to LED with full cluster.

2" lift all around. V8 GC coils and good shocks with new metric ton leafs or OME if available.

Get the floor rust patched up.

New sliding glass set up would be great.

Truck-Lites for the front with new housings and more LEDs.

More to come later today.

Ideas continued:

New Optima yellow top with metal tray and new cables.

New bumpers from Nates.

Convert to open cooling system.

Diamond plate muffler and high flow cat.

Original Comanche bedliner.

Transfer fuel tank to at least double range in Zombie Apocalypse.

Wish list:

Roll bar for long bed, wish I didn't sell last one I had.

Sun or moon visor, also wish I didn't sell that.

Make a longbed trailer from rusty MJ. (Kinda in progress now).

I've had no issues with my yellow one in XJ. Not like I have a winch or anything. Just cold winters. Even left my Truck-Lites on with flashers one night and started up. But I believe there is another company that beats the yellow top, just not thinking of it at the moment.

Expected budget $3-4K I guess.

The AGM batteries at most any of your local parts stores are made by East Penn. Less expensive, than the Made in Mexico Optima.

Only reason I have an Optima in my MJ right meow is the fact that it's about a decade old and only cost 15$.

Otherwise, go to costco and pick up a 34 or 34/78 Battery for under 100$ and have a 3 year customer satisfaction warranty replacement.

Currently in the shop for repairs. Needs the cat back exhaust system, alternator, belt, thermostat, and cooling system flush. I'll probably do the last things myself to save some money. I was in a drive thru when it stalled out and realized the alternator gave up. At least it is getting a new 100 amp one.
