deziped1
Will this filter (L14670) for an 91 MJ work on an 89 MJ? Local retailers in my town don't carry the Purolator (believe it was L14619 ?) that fit the Renix engine, obviously do to it's age.
sinkrun
I think the renix era was metric and the later standard so no. You can get the steel threaded nipple thats in the filter adapter from a newer cherokee or the dealer and swap it with the renix so the newer filters fit. I bought on years ago after reading about it but never did it would not even know where to look for it. I bet Hornbrod will be in with the part number before I can find it. The Purolator number is L14619 The oil filter base on the Jeep 4.0L engines is an adapter that's screwed to the block. You can remove the metric adapter and install an adapter for the 91+ engines and then use the L14670 filters.
HOrnbrod
The 91 and up oil filter adapter has SAE 3/4"x16 threads. This allows you to use larger capacity readily available oil filters, some of which are shown below. I normally use the ones in RED below: 5.178" HIGH, 3.660" DIAMETERAC-Delco PF2, $6.28Motorcraft FL-1A, $6.49Purolator L30001, $5.76Napa 1515, $6.69Wix 51515, $6.69Mopar L-72 L-326, L-526, L-55, L-1007, L-138Baldwin B118, $9.26Hastings LF115, $8.73Mobil 1 M1-301, $8.00Amsoil EaO15, $18.75Donaldson P550008, $4.216.93" HIGH, 3.660" DIAMETERAC-Delco PF42Motorcraft FL299Purolator L40017Napa 1773Wix 51773Mopar L-
deziped1
Thanks you all for the info. I'll get this taken care of with the newer oil filter adapter off a 91 +.
cruiser54
You can just change the nipple in the oil filter adapter and use a Napa 1515 oil filter. Nipple is about $6 at the dealer.
