ahmincha Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I plan on buying a cherokee to get all the parts needed for the swap. Plus I would like to get other upgrades. My question is what would be the ideal year cherokee to buy?
87MJTIM Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 4 or 6 cyl? manual or auto? You will want the matching trans/tcase. The front driveshaft from the XJ will fit. The rear drive shaft on the MJ will need to be shortened to allow for the tcase. The XJ drive shaft is to short. As for the year XJ to get, get one that does not have the CAD. I'm not sure which year Jeep discontinued the CAD. 95? 96?
ahmincha Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 6 cyl auto I want to get the matching gearing. I have a dana 44 so i'll only be changing the front axle. Is the 92 single diaphragm vacuum booster? And if yes what yr cherokee would have a dual
buckwheat Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 95/96 will have the dual diaphragm booster and be plug and play with your vehicle. Also should have the solid front axle, although the smaller u-joints compared to a 97-99 front axle. Any automatic transmission comes with 3.55 gearing. So it looks like you want a 95 or a 96 with an automatic transmission. Good luck on the swap and upgrades.
ahmincha Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 That's what I was looking for thanks guys
mikekaz1 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 You will have to transfer your speedo gear and housing from old to new though as they use different connectors and sensors
mikekaz1 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If you want to do other seals/upgrades you could look for a 97 and get the better front axle along with the doors and nose all at the same time.
