metric ton options

Recommended Posts

curious on what is included in the metric ton package  or commonly optioned. I have one with some options I haven't seen commonly on others and wondering if its normal.

in particular mine seems to have:

4.0/aw4

long bed

3+2 springs

d30/d44

trailer hitch

tranny cooler

factory installed meyers  plow

front control arm drop  brackets

extra thick front coils (looks factory)

of these or more, what are metric ton options vs towing package vs possible aftermarket?

Big Ton or Metric Ton package required:  Long Bed required, AW4 Transmission, H.D. Trans Cooler, H.D. Cooling, Power Steering and Brakes, Dana 44 axel, H.D. Springs, front and rear (3+2 on rear).  May be more I am forgetting - can look at my window sticker.  Trailer hitch, snow plow, front control arm drop brackets were not part of the Big Ton/Metric Ton package.

always was curious.... what makes it an HD cooling system? was it a larger radiator? everything looked the same.

and so the MTs did use special front springs? anyone know spec differences?

also were there a specific gear ratio associated with these?

Drop brackets and springs are most surely not original, but part of a lift kit installed at some point. (The front of your truck is pretty tall...)

Mopar did sell a Meyer plow up until about 2000 for tje xj and the tj. Mopar also sold air shocks for the front to help with the plow weight. They worked very well.

Sales brochure specs:
Dana 44

heavy duty front and rear springs and shocks

15x7 styled white steel wheels

full sized spare

and tailgate BIG TON decal although I think I've seen METRIC TON too.  Mine didn't have any  because Chysler didn't know what it was doing when they made the thing.  The AMC dealer said they would get me one but they went out of business before they did.

Longbed was not a part of the package but a required option.

The Jeep sales brochure actually compares the Big ton option to a Ford ranger and Chevy s-10 when actually it walked all over Ford, Chevy and Dodge full size 3/4 ton stuff.
