Fuel gauge fix? continually reads full. Need help I'm not mechanically sound

Recommended Posts

One option is to check the plug from the fuel sending unit to see if it changes with fuel level. If so it may be fine and wiring is bad to the dashboard.

These trucks supposedly have poor ground connection issues. The left rear tail light has a ground lug behind it connected to the chassis. This is where the fuel sending unit gets its ground connection.

One solution before ripping too much stuff apart is to see if that is a good connection. Maybe remove it clean the lug and reconnect to the chassis to make a good ground.

I have the same issue. My fuel level is pegged at full (I fill up after 120 miles and reset the counter lol). This is more likely an issue with the ground but not for sure. If the gauge is pegged at empty I think that is more likely the fuel unit. But that is what I have seen other people on here say. I would start at the lug. My ground lug was frozen stiff so I have to go back with a torch and some pb and try and loosen it. I can let you know if it works for me.
