Comanche County
I haven't had a lot of time to keep up with my projects and builds lately on CC but here's one I've had since this summer. I flew to TX to see family and I ended up staying later and picked up this nice little XJ in Austin, super cheap. It was used by a retired couple and flat towed behind their muliple RVs. It had 180K on the odometer but it was towed for around 115K of that 180K. It spent its life in South TX and being towed on the California coast. Its rust free. I figure its actual mileage is probably around 70-80K but there's really no way to be sure. I've converted it to an open cooling system, ditched the D35 for a 99' 8.25 and a trac loc. I also added about a 4" lift. It also came with a full set of 1989 service manuals. They're visible in the pic below. Took it on a little getaway with the wifey to NC. We went to the Biltmore and rode a few trails in Gorges State Park. Mild stuff but still fun. The Horsepasture River. There's a lot of nice waterfalls around that area.. Comanche County
So much easier with a tractor! My 32" BFGs MTs were shot, so threw on a set of 32" ATs for a recent trip to Durhamtown Offroad Park, I traded for em, I'm not really a fan of the wheels. This was a really fun trip, I took my 11 yr old and he had a blast. My buddy Russ' and his safaried out Zebra YJ, its cool. My buddy Mike's TJ, he's a retired C-130 crew chief. This is my buddy Brian's nicely put together TJ. He's had it in the "Ooops" section in JP mag a couple of times. I let my son take the wheel in this little dirt mound area, let me tell you his eyes were focused! I have a manual drivers seat in it temporarily till I get the electric seat working again. I'm in this video, my friend Steve has the green YJ with the winch attached. https://youtu.be/TdojB9v5SYE https://video-atl1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-xap1/v/t42.1790-2/11832588_521513808000385_505414622_n.mp4?efg=eyJybHIiOjc5OSwicmxhIjo1NTcsInZlbmNvZGVfdGFnIjoicmVzXzQyNl9jcmZfMjNfbWFpbl8zLjBfc2QifQ%3D%3D&rl=799&vabr=444&oh=47ab184ed2e2cfb0b7c5600b51cd6097&oe=55D419DC
Comanche County
Thanks Ben, I was lucky to get it. Its really a time capsule......and before the lift I was getting 23 mpg! Not sure what it is now. I was gonna keep it small and put some new 235s or 245s on it but I like the way it looks with the 32"s now. I will have to buy new tires for it soon, I haven't made up my mind on what to do with it. I do wanna keep it simple, lightweight and as original as possible....and get good mileage. Comanche County
The windshield wasn't leaking when I bought it but I guess these offroad trips popped it loose. I found that it wasn't original glass and that someone had previously seal it with bathroom caulk and then again with clear silicon. It started leaking real bad so I popped it out and cleaned it up and resealed it with butylene. Ended up a little too close to the pillars but it isn't leaking anymore. Doc.
Just clicked this post for the first time. Out of all the photos that I assume should be there, only one shows up, the others are just little black boxes with an X in them. :(
