It's fine. The fan switch, unlike an oil pressure switch, doesn't operate by grounding a gauge or light, but closes the positive side of the circuit to the fan, so there is no path to ground through the threads on the switch.

^^  You are correct - missed that it's a Renix with the rad hole bung switch the OP was referring to.

 

But I do use teflon tape on sensors and switches that ground through the shell, always have. Just not to many wraps.
