Strokermjcomanche
I believe The Dana 44 plates are different then the Dana 35 plates . The plate bolt patterns are 80mm and 85mm , guessing the 85mm is the Dana 44 and the 80 mm for the Dana 35 . http://comancheclub.com/topic/44203-is-this-part-necessary-pic-attached/?fromsearch=
sinkrun
Glad you caught that I do have the 44.
HOrnbrod
The shock mounting plates (#5 below) will fit either axle. It's the reinforcement plate (#12 below) that's axle-specific.
xjrev10
Definitely 2 different shock mounting plates..
HOrnbrod
Austin, the two beefier looking shock mounting plates on the left in your picture is what I have on my 91. There are no reinforcement plates. The setup with the reinforcement plates on the 90 and below models is shown on the right side in your pic. Of course the parts manuals make no mention of this design change. :fs1: That drove me a little bit crazy for awhile setting up the D44.......... sinkrun
Ones on the left look like the best shape also. If the left ones will fit with no support on my 89 d44 if yes I would like to have them if no I will take the others.
HOrnbrod
The left set will work on your D44; that's the same set I have on mine. Only not as rusty. The right set, unless it came from a D44, will not work. There were two different reinforcement plates made, one for the 35 and one for the 44, and they are not interchangeable.
xjrev10
Nothing a little sandblast and some fancy black paint can't fix Don! LOL
HOrnbrod
I know - just raggin' on you and your compatriots who live up in the tundra.
Kerry
The info on the design change is good to know, the pictures make it even better. I wonder how many other changes didn't get documented during the AMC to Chrysler transition years and is there a thread on this or other forums that might list others?
