budwisr
Very nice!! Ever see the prototype AMX? Image Not Found Yep, that was Dom Jiardine's car. His grandson has it now although last time I seen it, it was for sale. Interesting story how Dom, a regular production worker, bought it from AMC. Here's another oddball AMX prototype. :)
cruiser54
Well, did you get the photo of the yellow Comanche I emailed you? Saw the car at Laguna Seca. Donahue was driving a Penske Camaro that won the race. Parnelli Jones was in a Mustang. Isn't that the old Hesco shop truck? Sure is. It's sitting gathering dust now in the Hesco "museum" in Birmingham. And no, didn't get the pic Cruiser. Where was that taken? Surely not in Birmingham, AL. Yes. When it was first built and here in Prescott with the head of Jeep Racing at the time. I used to get it for weekends when he needed a stock Comanche to haul real loads. I traded him my demo for it. The yellow one had composite leaf springs during their infancy.
HOrnbrod
Was it a 4.9L stroker with an Eaton blower then? Did you get to meet Lee Hurley?
cruiser54
Was it a 4.9L stroker with an Eaton blower then? Did you get to meet Lee Hurley? Never met Lee. Gary had it here running Electramotive programmable injection. Mexican block with a supercharger that looked kinda like the old AC Delco AC compressors. Had that putrid blue interior. Keyav8r
If I remember correctly, Lee told me that the factory told him to have it crushed but he kept negotiating until he was able to acquire it. Brought it out to the air show at Bessemer one year and ripped off a few runs down the runway late one evening. That little yellow sucker will flat burn up the tires. I left a GTO in the dust from 65 plus MPH. I MAY have played a part in getting it registered. I've slept since then.
Keyav8r
Lee was a more than a little vague about that part.
HOrnbrod
Lee is always vague except when it comes to $$.
Keyav8r
You got that right! When he moved to the "new" building I sold him a water pump for the dyno. Writing the check was an emotional time for him.
HOrnbrod
On 2nd Ave? If so, been on that dyno a time or two. He's always done my dyno runs, and the man knows his stuff. He's a freaking Jeep legend, just ask him. But seriously, you can learn more about getting the most out of Jeep 4.0 engines in ten minutes yakking with him than surfing forums for ten days. Keyav8r
Yep, that's the dyno. Lee definitely knows his stuff and it's not just Jeeps - practically anything domestic or foriegn. Did a good bit of round track racing and engine building, too. He's also a turbine rated commercial pilot who has flown transatlantic.
