Boy am I surprised. Insurance totaled the wife's Chevy  damaged in the recent hail storm.  I knew it was bad but didn't think it was that bad. So she's looking for another one. Got her talked into getting a Jeep with the payoff. Used. Not new. Trouble is I know nothing about the newer models. Sooo since there are so many knowledgeable peeps here I suggested she check in and get some opinions from some of you here more knowledgeable than me. Just a heads up so when she checks in you'll know what's going on.

Hi..I was looking at possibly a Jeep Liberty..but have read some negative reviews on them...plus it seems they don't get much better fuel mileage than the bigger jeeps?  anyone able to give me ..a I own one and this is what I think opinion.

I drove an '05 Liberty for 7 years & 120,000. The water pump failed at 4,000 miles and was fixed under warranty. I considered that a fluke as no one else has reported such an early failure. At 90,000 I replaced the radiator due to a crack. This is a common problem with Liberties and many plastic radiator cars. I also had to replace the intermediate axle shaft in the front but mine was lifted and had 31" mud terrains and I abused it off-road. There rear was locked as well. Mine would get 19 mpg or so In mixed driving but it was the unusual 6 speed stick. The autos get 17 or so.

The 3.7 V6, like the 4.7 V8 it came from, has problems if the previous owner did not change the oil regularly. From timing chains to blowing up these engines have problems if neglected.

They have a problem with window regulators failing as well. The auto used in most years is the 43 series and is not the strongest option. The KJ ( 02-07) and kk (08-on) are porkers. They weigh 4,500 #s or so If I remember correctly. That hurts performance and MPG

I don't know if this helped at all.

for what it's worth, that weight translates into safety.   It's a little tank of a ride. :D

we have a diesel 06 and I love that Jeep!  160k miles so far and we don't intend to ever sell, but if something awful happened to her I'd be all for getting another.
