Vaccum/Emissions Delete Questions

Recommended Posts

I once had a '89 S10 with the 2.8 engine. It couldn't pull itself out of a wet spot on the road. By the time I got thru ripping out everything that I didn't think it needed all that was left was a basic engine. Although it ran better, kinda, it didn't really pick up and go until I also swapped the carb and distributer

If you are going to go through that much work. why not just throw a SBC 350 or something that is basically plug n pray for that year range? Or a 4.0L

I'd like to do that eventually. Funds are pretty tight so I thought I'd see if it was any advantage/worth the money to get rid of it.

The thing about the "power-sapping emissions equipment" on these early-emissions vehicles (70's and 80's) is that it's not just stuff that got bolted onto the outside of the engine. It's the entire fuel and air system, in many cases right down to the head and cam.

Like Jim said, if you've got a better carb sitting around that you can slap on it, you'll likely see some benefits, but frankly, if you're tight on funds, it's best just to leave it alone. It's unlikely you'll be able to do enough to improve fuel economy to see short-term financial benefits, and once you start messing with it, you may find yourself digging a hole lined with dollar bills.
