81Chero
Well its' getting warmer and maybe it's me but getting spoiled by wife's vehicle. I'm still driving my son's 88 Comanche 4cyl, 4spd miser edition (NON AIR) Pioneer. And the temps are getting higher here near Memphis and need to do something. I've read several threads on converting to 134 but haven't seen/read of peeps that have gone from NON air to AIR conditioning using USED parts (except for the usual compressor, dryer, evap yadda yadda). I'll most likely be hitting the yards looking for a candidate to pull parts from BUT, what about the harness? Is it all there already just maybe taped off? Or do I have to swap out a COMPLETE under dash harness/etc..? My son's 88 has about 240,000 miles and there already 'issues' with the main fuse block as in deteriorated fuses that needed changing and now blowing fuses for dash lights and heater/blower after cluster swap.. So, now that you have a back ground, What do I need from a donor Cherokee to make this little pioneer blow cold? If its' all just a pull and replace that's fine but if there has to be major mods I might consider selling since I HATE wiring challenges-problems that are out of my brains limits. Granted that I realize that there will be new parts here and there, just need info/techniques on swapping it all in this truck. I NEED to get this done in the next month or sooner..!! Marine1Texas
I just installed a under dash A.C system. the boxes runs about 100 dollars a/c only and all wiring can be done out side of dash and direct with relays under the hood. Just needs the unit, compressor, condenser, universal dryer and then the hoses. I have even see someone install one behind the box console behind the seat. Only had to run the lines under the cab. I got the a/c heater box combo took out my old box and mounted under passenger dash and ran a tube to the vents on dash and defrost. It cost me 400 for everything installed. I opted out of factory install because the search for used parts is not easy where I live. you need box that can install the core, and you will need the control box for a/c to replace you heat only unit near radio. Everything else is standard hook up at that point. All refurbished or new compressor will be able to use the 134a.

Marine1Texas
What brand did you use and how well does it work? Any pics you could post. It work really well. if you leave it on high for more then a hour, you need to turn it down, it will spit out small chunks of ice. This one is a coolmaster! made in Florida. People don't like the way it looks, I really don't care, it is more about keeping cab cool when I run the farm and stop leave truck idling for 5 minutes with door open. the truck stays cool while doing that. Even at idle it keep truck very cold. The air flow is also about 4 times stronger then the Comanche box air as well. It has 2 fans on the back. You can get in other colors that match the dash as well. We have another brand in our other Comanche it fits completely under the dash and runs thru the vents. It does not blow as hard or get as cold I have found. When it is 110 degrees here in Texas, I rather use this truck and A/C then my newer dodge truck!
