brendon5
I have a 1988 Jeep Pioneer 4x4 inline 6 that i just bought. I believe it has the CCV system but the whole harness is missing...the hose on the crankcase closest to the cab is still there and operating and the opening on the crankcase closest to the front of the vehicle has a small hose with a filter...just wondering about all of this as this is my first jeep. Marine1Texas
I have a 1987 Jeep Pioneer 4x4 4.0L. I removed the whole vacuum harness years ago. (since I am exempt and here in Texas being more then 24 years old I do not worry about emissions I have hooked up what is needed) I have it down to just a few lines left and direct. My setup A. Throttle body to MAP sensor direct no sharing B. the back old ccv, I put a pcv and direct connect to manifold (nipple next to 3 nipple vacuum). I removed the one nipple connector and put a 3/8 quick connect from a air compressor line then used a 3/8 gas line to pcv. C. In the back near throttle body on manifold I have one going to the vacuum ball under the front bumper that supply's to 4 wheel drive, transfer case., it also has a line going in side to hvac system. D. In the front of the manifold there is a 3 nipple vacuum. 1 is direct hook up to the Fuel pressure regulator 2nd one is connected to the electric valve for opening EGR on the driver side next to old filter box (Since I did EGR delete This is now capped off) 3rd it was hooked up to the filter box when I had it installed. (it is now capped off because I use spectra intake, that does not need heat from exhaust) After these we also get no more oil spitting on valve cover with pcv and and no more oil in filter box (also cruiser has good tips for keeping oil from coming up ccv). It was one of the things I done to help clean up the vacuum system for any leaks. Now the front hose with filter on yours, went to the filter box when it was new. however it is just a breather for your valve cover to let off pressure. (mine now go's to a filter as well then to my intake ). Just make sure to check the filter every now and then to make sure no oil build up in it. Noriyori, Do you happen to have a write up this with a bit more detail, possibly pics? I think your explanation is pretty clear but more is always better. I finally got my engine in my truck and am in the process of hooking things back up. I would love to do away with the harness. Did you have to run a new line from MAP to TB or use existing? Same question for the line from the manifold to the vacuum ball. Also, I have an antique tag so no worries on emissions. Thanks!
ScottJeep
OK... well I hate to dump all these pictures on this thread but...if it helps others it's worth it. I have the Spectre Cowl Cold Air Intake. Here is it and all my vacuum connections. Full Install VC to air intake tube connector ( included with kit ) Canister connection to air intake tube ( included with kit) Fuel Pressure Regulator @ intake connection. The two smaller lines are the EGR solenoid (others are free to correct me on this one). The LARGE connection is to the rear connection on the VC. Rear VC connection indicated in the previous pic. Brake Booster connection and Intake connection over to my vacuum ball. Vacuum ball. Small connection goes over to the Heat & A/C Top one goes back over and is connected to the vacuum ball. The other red to grey I have plugged right now. Can't remember what it is "suppose" to be. It may suppose to go to the vacuum ball as well. I think I originally had the small football which might have more connections. When I put this thing back together had the small ball in the parts bin so I used it. pl plugged in of the red to grey line. Here is the only shot I took of the EGR / EGR solenoid area. Sorry the quality sucks balls. You can sorta make out that I capped everything down at the EGR. Truck runs fine. I average about 14.5mpg around town with the lift and the tires I run (265/75/16 Bridgestones Dueler RVTs). The intake air tube was just something I found on eBay and got it shipped to me for $80.00. Not really sure of the impact over all performance wise. I am a little leary of the cone filter and the fact that I wrestled with the damn thing for 30 getting it just right to clamp the two main pieces together. Will not be fun for oil changes. And the kit comes with everything EXCEPT some type of screen where the adapter is bolted to the cowl. I used two pieces of different sized screen to make my own. Now it does "sound" totally awesome inside the cab and I think outside (based on the looks over I've gotten..or it sounds like crap and they are trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my truck!). You can really hear the motor sucking the cool cowl air and a slight whistle as the throttle body closes back up. I have several other pieces from Spectre I pickup at the JY but would need a heat shield to move it back down where the factory box was. Hope this helps! mjeff87
^^^nice setup Scott I removed as much of the vacuum harness as possible on my 87. It really cleans up the engine bay..... Image Not Found
