1986 2.5 with AX4 clutch problem

Recommended Posts

A while back i replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing. clutch slave, and clutch master

after i replaced the clutch master i noticed the clutch pedal now sits about 1 in. past the brake pedal like it as a shorter push rod. i have been having a problem getting a good clutch pedal. Could the shorter push rod not be giving me enough travel?

could someone give me length of theirs so i can measure mine or maybe a part number ?

There is supposed to be a plastic cone pushed onto the end of the push rod that rides in the throw out arm. This increases the length of the rod by almost an inch. I ran into the same issue when I did mine. It just wasn't getting enough throw to fully disengage. Then I looked at the pushrods and transfered the plastic cone and all was good. You would think it would come with a new one on the slave cylinder but it doesn't. Hope this helps.

Okay, now I have another question: Which push rod? I was thinking the push rod from the peddle to the master -- I'm accustomed to the BA10/5 with the internal slave, so I forgot that a clutch with an external slave also has a push rod on the lower end.

Do you still have the old master ?

Pull the rod out max and measure the rod from the lip of the cylinder to the center of the hole....do the same on your new one.

I have changed and rebuilt masters but newer come across a rod that was a noticeable 1" different.
