WTB: instrument cluster (with gauges) for column shift

Hi all, I am currently looking for the aforementioned gauge cluster for my '88 MJ to replace the dummy cluster I have in there now. My truck is a column shift so I am not sure if a gauge with the PRND123 window exists?

If anyone has one for sale please let me know and thanks very much for your time and help!

You MAY be able to find a "police" cluster for your column shifter.  The "police" cluster has no tach but has all the minor gauges in the full gauge cluster.  As an added bonus, it has a certified speedometer that goes to 120 mph.  However, not all "Police" clusters had the column shifter, rather some did.  Another issue is you are looking for a 1988 and the "police" clusters I have seen are all for the 91+ MJ with the electronic speedometer.

The DIY section has a full gauge conversion for the column shifter automatic, with 2 different solutions.

Thanks everyone so for with the responses! Has anyone successfully managed to switch out individual gauges instead of an entire cluster swap?

I have never taken one apart and maybe just talking out my @ss! lol!

I will check out the auto swap (from column to floor) and see if I can look at making an indicator window otherwise. I did see that Hornbrod had a post that showed an indicator window that attached to the steering column. That's always an option!

Going from column to floor is not a top priority as I actually love the column shift AND the bench seat! lol! I am a photographer and like being able to scoot across the bench to the passenger side to shoot out the window! Buckets look so much better but don't function well for I need!

Anyway back to the archives!

Thanks again everyone!

A few more thoughts about a full gauge cluster and column shifter.

The 90 and earlier clusters can be converted to a column shifter.  The problem is cutting the "window" for the shifter window.  A possible solution is to buy a set of white face decals to cover the faces in the 6 gauge cluster.  Take the face off the big fuel gauge (it has the window for the column shifter) and put the new face decal for the tach on the face of the big fuel gauge.  Now mount the old big fuel gauge face plate on the big tach.  Bingo! Now cut the decal for your shifter window.  This way you are just cutting the decal after you have put it on the fuel gauge face.  No metal cutting involved and you have the nice clean factory cut metal.

Awesome tips guys and thanks again for the input. I managed to dig up an owner's manual and according to it both the US and Canadian models with the indicator window in the cluster have the dummy gauges. So yes it looks like I will need to create the indicator window or go the route of having one set up on top of the steering column or rearranging the cluster appearance with decals (thanks johnj92131).

Sorry if this has all been done to death but I really appreciate the help and I will continue digging through the CC archives.

Thanks!

Chris
