comancheman Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 ok i need some professional opinions ive been shopping around for tires and have pretty much settled on super swampers but I'm not sure which ones. my funds are extremely limited first option is the 34x9.5 tsl they run at $160 a piece next option is the 34x10.5 ltb they run at about $130 a piece. does anyone have any experience with the ltb as far as quality goes. i know its a super swamper so one can expect less than ideal tire wear but is it alot worse than the tsl?
Twisty Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Yeah, I got mine used. Lots of people have the LTB. Mitch just bought a set. Look around, there are quite a few deals.
87manche Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 goto junkyard, buy used road tires. buy LTB's for trail use. I'll give you a set of steel rims for the road tires. I found my 34x9.5s on rockcrawlers for $450, and I just bought a set of 235 road tires for $80. Used is the cheapest place.
Mitch Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Though mine were not used, nor have I put them on the truck yet, I paid $550 for 5 34x10.50's TSL's. I agree don't buy swampers new. Buy BFG AT's new :) which if you are on a budget and that is your DD I would HIGHLY recommend BFG AT's. They are pretty cheap, check out www.tirepackage.com that is where I got my last set of AT's and Steel rims!
comancheman Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 i have a set of 31's for daily driving I'm just really thinkin trail use
87manche Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 i have a set of 31's for daily driving I'm just really thinkin trail use trail use only, buy the swampers and don't look back. I feel that they're the best all around tire. Sure, some do better in rocks and some do better in mud, but the swamper is the defacto standard in mixed trail riding. if it's really a trail tire then I'd get bias ply. you can air them down without fear of damage to the tire, and the sidewalls are tougher. FWIW, the special service 34x9.5 has the deepest skid depth of any swamper, 27/32
Stumpy Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 FWIW, the special service 34x9.5 has the deepest skid depth of any swamper, 27/32 Q78's have 27/32 also. i do agree Swampers are the best for your money, i had a set of 34" LTB's and they were baddaxx but i just got a set of 33" TSL's and love them too. i go places in my TJ w/open axles that others go with lockers and BFG's or TrXus.....have outdone many a Rubi...lol
