Rear wheel drive applications have the starter mounted on the right side of the block (when viewed from the flywheel) and on the opposite side of the block than front wheel drive. The 2.2l S10/Sonoma had the starter located in the same position as front wheel drive cars. A rear wheel drive bellhousing is displayed at right. GM 60-Degree 2.8/3.1/3.4/3.5/3.8/3.9 L V6 (also used by AMC) Buick 3300/3800 V6 Cadillac HT4100/4.5/4.9 L V8 Isuzu 3.5L DOHC V6 AMC/Chrysler 2.5L I4 found in Jeep Cherokee, Comanche, Wagoneer, CJ and Wrangler and Dodge Dakota GM Iron Duke/Tech-4 2.5L I4 GM "122" 1.8/2.0/2.2 L I4 GM 5.3L LS4 V8 GM 3.5L LX5 "Short Star" V6 You will not have a CPS mount, you could go aftermarket for $$$$. The '64 is slated for a Allison 545, but might stay with a manual NV4500 and convert to Hydro clutch for my blasting truck. (not sure if I want to be shifting that big truck in stop and go Memphis traffic) It's going to have '00 fr/rr axles from a dually and the Dana 80 out back is going to have Super Single semi wheels with adapters. Kinda 'hot rod' look and rake. So message me or here if interested. I can give you the bolt pattern too. (actually can get more of them if needed, with or without PTO) Driver.. Don't know what the pic is for. Not really following you. But thanks for the addition nonetheless. I've got probably 40yrs of parts and several transmissions that are rebuilt ready to go into 'something', so there's really not going to be a BIG expense on my side. And, also installing a NV3500 into a '88 Mighty max long bed, 1-ton with a 5.2 magnum and Yota p/u rear with 3.73 gears.. The ignition system is signaled by the tone ring on the fly wheel, the CPS is mounted to the AMC/Jeep/Chrysler bell housing. Just because a GM trans will bolt up does not mean you can use it unless you go to an aftermarket ignition. What is so difficult about that that you cannot understand? That would be cool to bolt in a Northstar in the comanche! Wish I could bolt in a 4.1 Buick V6 from a Riv that I got. But that's a BOP fitment. On our '92 cherokee, I never had to mess with the engine or ignition either. "NOT PROGRAMMED TO RECEIVE" ..?? I'm not stupid.. Just wanting to know about the bell housing from doing research on a truck for my son. I'm NO know it all by any means. benjy_26 Posted January 5, 2015 Share Posted January 5, 2015 On thw pic of the bellhousing, that rectangular notch on the upper right side is where the crank position sensor pokes through to read the pulses from the flywheel. Without that sensor, the EFI Jeep emgine will not run. The easiest way to make a 2.5 Jeep engine mate with a GM tranny is to use a tranny that will accept the AMC bellhousing in some way.
