91Pioneer
My speedo is out. It looks like a long shaft 36 tooth gear is what I need. gojeep.willyshotrod.com says I need a # 52068158. I know you can buy them new but I always prefer to buy from members here if possible. I'd be OK with a used one. I believe it looks like this:
HOrnbrod
Have you pulled the speedo gear out of the AW4 tail to check it out? These gears seldom go bad. And if it's for your 91, you have an electronic speedo. Most all problems with these are electrical, not mechanical.
Rockfrog
Let me check my stores, I think I may just have a 36t long and short. Both came out of a 93-98 ZJ V8 with 3.73 gearing if you want find something closer.
91Pioneer
hornbrod, oh by "speedo out" I meant the reading is off because of tire size. It was inaccurate when I bought it, then I put a non-stock tire size on. It's out by 10% otherwise I really wouldn't care. It's reading 10% too fast so I'd like to get it down close to where it should be. I should have said "speedo off", whoops. Rockfrog, thanks let me know. The local junkyard is 40 miles away so I don't hit it up very often and they have a lot of GM & imports, not too many Jeeps. I've read that you can remove the gear from the shaft, so a 36 short can work if I can get my gear and the other gear off the different length shafts. Rockfrog
I have one of each shaft length ... Just not positive if they were 34 or 36... I'll check in a minute.
Rockfrog
I have a short shaft 36, my long shaft was 35t gear. FYI - my 00 xj rolled out of the factory reading 10% slow.
91Pioneer
I'm interested. Is it still in good shape? Can you post a pic? On the same page that gave me the part # it said a guy used a heat gun to heat it up and slide the gear off, and then press it onto the other length shaft, so I'm willing to give it a try. PM me a price and we'll talk.
Rockfrog
Shoot me a link and I can probably even swap them for ya. May only need to punch them out as the ends are open. I have an old 32t I'll try on. PM me an address and I'll see what shipping will cost.
