88 Comanche 4.0 auto (Cruiser's tips completed)

Going home last night, my Comanche started to bog down, I gave it more skinny pedal, and then the muffler exploded. It started back up and would idle for a few seconds then died. Wouldn't restart.

Got it home and it started back up after I cranked at WOT to clear fuel out of cylinders. It idled for a few seconds and died. The exhaust smelled like raw fuel.

What could have crapped out to cause an over fueling issue? It was late, and I didn't pull a plug to check for fouling. I don't think that it is the CPS, because I wouldn't think that it would even start if it was bad. Could the coolant sensor in the block cause this issue, I know that it adjusts the pulse widths on the injectors, but would it be enough to completely foul out? MAT/MAP effect it in this way as well?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

MAP would definitely effect it. Have you checked the line to it for leaks? My truck acted like that when I accidentally knocked the line completely off the sensor and didnt notice.
