ownedueasy
Ok I'm converting from 2wd to 4x4, it's a 2.5. And the 2wd cross member won't work the bolt holes are about 3 inches off. Will a cherokee cross member work? And if so does it matter if it came from 4.0 or 2.5? Aw4 or ax15? Or would you suggest welding a plate on mine to extend it a bit? Only welder I have is a cheap 110 Flux core wire welder
Eagle
Three inches off longitudinally, or laterally? Are you aware that the XJ and MJ have two sets of mounting holes/studs in the frame rails for the cross member? Perhaps you need to relocate to the other set of mounting holes/studs. HOrnbrod
According to the parts manual, the only difference in the MJ/XJ crossmembers is for the auto vs. manual transmissions. The manual crossmember is bent a bit deeper for more exhaust pipe clearance. There is no difference between 2WD vs. 4WD, 2.5 vs. 4.0 vs. 2.1, etc.
ownedueasy
Yes, it's all the way forward on the holes and it's off longitudinally, I will go out later and check again but I'm almost 99% positive it's wrong

The XJ and the MJ are set up with two SETS of cross member mounting locations. Whichever one is used, there is one stud and one threaded hole for a bolt. There is another set of mounting holes, forward or rearward of what you are currently using. This is to account for differences between engines and transmissions.
