danbyrambler Posted October 23, 2014 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Looking for cause of leak & found nothing obvious - - - - Brown crud is stop leak residue from radiator in the truck when I bought it - Wasn't leaking, just figured only a matter of time & replaced it with this alum/plastic unit purchased used - - Seemed like a good deal, but then buying a used radiator is just daring Murphy's Law to strike - - - Started leaking this past Feb & was replaced then, after only a few months service - - 1st alum/plastic job I've had prob with - Replaced it with a all alum 2 row - All aluminum 2 row type purchased because of bargain basement closeout price I happened to find - - - Anyway, thought I'd take it apart just to see how they're assembled - Clever - - - - Was cleaning the shop & heading for the recycle center with the scrap steel, aluminum & brass the space aliens leave behind ever so often. :cheers: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rockfrog Posted November 8, 2014 Share Posted November 8, 2014 I have an old 80's shop manual that shows the proper procedure for rebuilding an aluminum core plastic tank Rad. You use vice grips set to the proper closing distance to recriminations the tank to the core. But, of all the recent rads I've seen, the retainer clips would most likely snap off when you bend them up. I've often though of using two stock automatic coolers as heat exchangers for an on board hot water for the wife. Run them inside a cannister plumbed into the heater lines.
