Inconsistent Clutch Disengagement

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Earlier this year I replaced the BA10/5 in my Comanche with an AX15 and a newer bell-housing with external slave cylinder. The bell-housing and throw-out lever are used, the slave cylinder and clutch are new. Though I paid to have the clutch master cylinder replaced, I suspect it is original and used. I notice when shifting that I always seem to catch a tooth as I upshift, as if the clutch is not completely disengaging. I checked the fluid level in the master on Saturday and the level appeared correct. Yesterday I drove to work no problem but this morning I was having difficulty upshifting. I also noticed that when I got in the parking lot the clutch seemed to want to hold the vehicle against a downhill coast, if that makes sense.

The work was done back in the Spring of this year and I've had no problem until this morning. If I'm not dealing with a fluid leak what should I be looking for? I suspect the master cylinder is the culprit, but I'm not sure.

What say all of you?

Also want to mention-

The 94+ factory masters have TWO plungers/O-rings on the shaft the comes out of the back of the master, the after markets have only one plunger. Also, the plastic eye that connects to the clutch pedal lever will have to be drilled out as it is too small.

I went through three after market masters, all of them leaked, I then realized with the help of another member here who had the same problem, that you have to make a slight bend in the shaft just after the eye. As the shaft enters the master at an angle and with only one plunger it will leak, the bend makes the shaft go in and out of the master more in line with the bore of the master and the plunger stays true to the bore.
