NP 207 T case Swap

Recommended Posts

I'm finally in the stages of swaping out the np 207 transfercase out of the truck. I have a 2.5 manual, long bed, and from what i remember its a 21 spline input on the transfer case, and on some of the  np 231 they have 21 spline input count.  Does anyone know what years they are? On the manual or auto Trans?  And I heard there are different lengths of the transfer case also......IDK       Thanks for the help

I don't know about the 2.5, but the 4.0 changed from 21 to 23 splines when the BA 10/5 was swapped for the AX15.  That was mid 89.

I think he is asking about the trans to transfercase connection.....the motor would not be in the equation.....but your years are correct.

That was when the trans to tcase spline count changed - for the 4.0.

When the spline count changed for the 2.5, I don't know.

If he gets a NP231 from an early 4.0, that will have the 21 splines.

I think you are missing my point here partner.......They did not build specific AX15's for I 4"s and I6's.....it is the same trans (some bellhousings could be differnt)......

The OP asked about the Trans to T-case join.....adding motors into the eqation just muddy's the waters...IMHO....now if you bring the AX5 into the equation that might clear up what you are thinking. (it would be different......)

Here is some info to help
