adobson06 Posted July 31, 2014 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I had a quick question and I'm pretty sure its a stupid question, but here it goes anyways..... my 86 comanche where the spindle goes into the axle housing there seems to be a rusty piece of metal left of what looks like to be a seal I'm not sure if its just a dust seal or what. Its kind of hard to explain without a picture which i will try to get later, but if you follow the ujoint off the wheel towards the center of the axle right where the spindle enters the housing it looks like there are remains of a seal is it a necessity to have that seal in place? there doesnt appear to be any fluid leaking from the axle on either side but both seals are rotted right out... But I'm confused by your use of the term "spindle," since only the early 2WD XJs and MJs have a spindle -- and it doesn't enter the axle housing. Are you referring to the front axle shafts, inboard of the U-joints and stub axles? adobson06 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Share Posted July 31, 2014 i guess that would be considered a cv shaft i havent torn it apart but yes i am referring to the front inboard stub axles 25 looks to be right.... i assume it would be 23 for the dust cover just looks like mine is closer to the teeth that slide into the housing wasnt sure if i should replace them or not seeing how they are rotted right out for the most parts just didnt want to run into trouble if i take the truck on a off road adventure :P ... thanks again for the help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
