TheDude
Hey all, I need a front drive shaft for a Cherokee/Comanche with a manual trans.
onlyinajeep726
Need to be more specific... 2.5L/AX4/5? 4.0L/BA10 or AX15? There are differences...
TheDude
I was hoping they weren't ALL different.. But of course they are anyway, mine is 4.0L AX

88ComancheMitch
How can you tell if it's an ax 15 vs. Other manuals?
TheDude
They went from the BA 10 to the AX 15 mid year 89. I'm not sure if they are different lengths or not. I measured and it's 32" yolk to yolk on the truck. So the driveshaft has to be a bit shorter than that fully compressed. If I remember, I'll measure the original shaft and post that info. 88ComancheMitch
There is a 87 at the junk yard. I was going to grab it. Sounds like it will be wrong style tough.
onlyinajeep726
Just be aware that a front DS from an AW4 equipped MJ/XJ will not work on a manual trans. equipped MJ/XJ. The AW4 version is an inch longer than the AX15 and BA10 versions.

onlyinajeep726
IIRC, the BA10, AX15 and NV3550 that are found behind 4.0L are of the same length. But the 4-banger Jeeps are different than the L6 Jeeps.
TheDude
Yeah, I tried to borrow one from an auto already and it was too long.
Timeless
I have one that is 30.75" compressed/34" extended and one that is 29" compressed/32" extended (measured with u-joints straight on a flat surface). Both are from running/driving rigs, but have been sitting around in my garage for a year or two. Shipping to you for either would run about $20. If you're interested, send me a PM. Thexjfiles
AX15 have an aluminum section near the rear, and the AX10s have a cast piece. I just pulled a front shaft from a 96 XJ that has a D30, and an AX15. Shaft is $55 plus shipping from NC.

TheDude
Mine is the same as yours, aside from your higher quality rear axle.. I got 31" - 33" compressed/extended lengths when I measured, but those may be slightly off.
