BryceOJ
Got an 88 and looking for the older color scheme instrument color (darkish blue) not the black and red. I'm not sure which would be compatible, Mine right now has the big fuel gauge and the speedo gauge with idiot lights. I have column shift, so I have the indicator. I know if i get a cluster with gauges i would have to get new temperature sensor and oil pressure sensor. Not sure what will happen if its one with a tachometer since I don't have one. I'm guessing ill have to get the 3/4 cluster which has the big fuel gauge still and no tach.
Keyav8r
If you install a cluster with a tachometer, it will work. The wiring is in the harness and the signal is being sent. All you need is the tach. Your problem will be finding a cluster with the indicator for the automatic trans. Someone posted a fix with an indicator mounted on the column, not sure who it was. Keyav8r
Just saw a photo of Hornbrod's truck with the column mounted transmission indicator. Look at the post for shifter knobs in the Pub section.

BryceOJ
Okay thanks guys. Would love to have a tach and that's good to hear that it'll work! Now to find a cluster! Haha
BryceOJ
What years will I have to stick with? Are there any issues with certain years for my 88?
Keyav8r
Probably Renix era trucks 87-90 as they use mechanical speedometer drives. The speedometer end of the cables may differ in the way they connect/clip onto the speedo hub during those years. The ideal find would be one like Dainternetguy's in the color scheme you want. I believe someone on the forums has grafted the shift indicator into a non-auto cluster and someone else has mounted a shift indicator on the column. Both mods should be/may be in the DIY section.
