airspeed
Wondering through Costco while the wife did some grocery shopping, found something really cool. (Feit Electric) This thing puts out some light, 3700 lumins @ 4100K on the color scale. It only has a power cord, no switch, I need to figure something there? It is rated for 50,000 hours or 45 years, which ever comes first. That means I will be ~109 when it needs replacing... Wonder if I will still have the Comanche. Last but not least $39.99, next year thet will be $18.00.
Blue XJ
I may have to go pick one of those up. Looks nice!
Blue88Comanche
We are currently looking into converting our two 24 hour gyms (Anytime Fitness) to 4' LED Tubes. It is going to be pricey and with their standard 60 payment plan we would save $120 ish during the lease to buy plan. After that we should save about $320 per location per month. One of our biggest turn off for LED lights is nowhere around here uses them, so I can't walk through and see how i like it. For your light, do you like the color? Do you notice a 60Hz flicker? If you walk by it do you notice a flicker, like cheap led Christmas lights?
Lemmon714
We have been installing LED fixtures in commercial office applications. The "Indirect light" fixtures have less glare and better coverage. Some of the surface fixtures will glare on all the chrome surfaces. The color is close to daylight, I prefer this color. You should be able to have an electrical supply company provide a few fixtures for "Testing" in your gym. We had 4 or 5 different fixtures before we found one that worked in an office area. You can also have individual occupancy sensors installed for each fixture. If there are times when the gym has low occupancy, the fixtures have a timer that will turn them "Off." If your gym is a "High Bay," I am not sure if the fixtures will work correctly. Your local electric company may offer a rebate for the installation of the fixtures. The CREE fixtures do not flicker like some of the other units.

There is no flicker that I can see. I think fluorescent lights tend to flicker due to the ripple you get from the high voltage transformers. I think that if you were going to make a large purchase you could negotiate some aggressive pricing discounts.
HOrnbrod
I like, especially the price. Are these 120VAC supply only? My garage lighting is wired for 220VAC.
johnj92131
Noticed these last weekend at Costco. Thought about buying 4 of these to put in the garage to light up the sides of the cars. But I would have to convert them to hard wired so they would all work on a single switch. Guess I could install 4 more outlets and just plug them in? I currently have 3 two lamp 4 foot fixtures at the front end of the garage plus to 150 watt equivalant CF bulbs, one in the center of the garage, one by the house entrance door. All are on one switch. Anita might kill me if I spend more $$ on garage electrical upgrades. Just dropped $800 to ad a 220 volt circuit and 4 additional 110 volt circuits, two in the garage, two outside the house. Now I have electric power all over the place, including on the upper concrete pad!!
Keyav8r
When they hit $18 each, I may look at replacing the 13 two lamp four foot fluorescent fixtures in the basement and the eight footer in the workbench area that I have hard wired. Lowes has four foot T8 shop lights for about $15 each around here. They have a plug, but it's fairly easy to convert your existing hardwire connection to a receptacle and plug those puppies in and have them on a switch. That's what I'm doing now - replacing old T12 shop lights as the ballasts go bad. Just make sure you get fixtures with electronic ballasts. I believe all the T8 fixtures have them. The old style ballasts had problems starting at cold temperatures, such as un-heated garages or shops.

Automan2164
I went the T8 route when the local Menards had the 234SLESW on sale. I had 2 standard bulb bases that I put CFL's in. It was dingy, dim, and light was near non existent. I replaced the switched bases into 2 outlet boxes, and mounted some lights. Before pic with 2 CFL's. Looking at the MJ, you can see that it's not very well lit. The light was white and bright, or it appeared to in the camera. Then I mounted one T8 fixture, and took another pic. That once bright CFL was yellowed in comparison to the new T8. All mounted: There is one thing that I absolutely love though... And that is my under hood LED shop light... Rob
johnj92131
Rob, Great pictures!! I have 3 dual 4 ft lamps, one in front of each car. Then a big CFL in the center of the garage. Works fine when I am at the front of the cars. But not so well when not at the front. Love the way you have 4 T8 fixtures around the truck. Guess I need to see about adding a few more switched outlets to the garage ceiling and installing a wall switch to control them. Problem is Anita has not gotten over me spending $1000 to have an electrician add a 220 circuit plus 2 110 circuits to the garage and 2 more 110 circuits out side the house. Guess I could run the new switched ceiling outlets from one of the new 110 circuits in the garage. That would not cost more than $120 (I "think"), depending on how much romex I have left. Yes, the under hood LED is a neat thing. Does Harbor Freight sell a cheap version?
Automan2164
Looks like they have a 120 LED rechargeable under hood light... Looks like a short guy, and probably comes with the standard style LED that is pretty directional. http://www.harborfreight.com/120-led-rechargeable-under-hood-work-light-60793.html This is mine. It's pricey, but I bought this before I did the lighting upgrade in the garage. I also didn't pay retail off the tool truck since I paid in cash. I do a lot of work in the driveway also, so this is a great tool to have around. The hood hooks have a flat on them so it will stand on his own on the ground also, so having it underneath the car lighting up the whole undercarriage is handy. It has 6 high intensity LED's. http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/UHWLAC/LED-UNDER-HOOD-LIGHT-AC-CORDED/ Rob
johnj92131
Found a SnapOn LED work light at Costco this weekend for $29.95 This is a 2000 lumen work light and it is BRIGHT. So I picked up 2 of them. Here is the very same light on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Snap0n-Snap-on-Worklight-Snap-on-Work-Light/dp/B00ODKG6OC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hi_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=15E1D70N3EXEMPMV3RH9 I missed the 4 ft. LED shop lights when Costco had them and did not want to miss this deal. Suspect they will be gone in few weeks, so if you want one of these, act quickly.
