4X4 Swap Question

so i have my ax5 external slave mated to my new np231 and I'm ready to slap her in but i need to know how much to shorten my driveshaft how do i measure it ? or has someone done it before and remembers the numbers ? its a 88 2.5  sport truck originally a ax4 2wd and has a dana 35 rear end

Best thing to do is to take the measurements after everything is bolted in . The place where you have the ds shortened will tell you how you should measure for length . I'd be nervous that two trucks could have different length shafts due to the tcase length .

Install your trans.

 

Insert the drive shaft into your transfer case and make certain the yoke is where it normally rides.....match the ring on the yoke to the seal.

 

Now, measure the center of the ujoint in the DS yoke to the center of the differential yoke.

 

It is that measurement you want to take to your DS specialist.

 

Should be somewhere around 47.75" IIRC.

For what it costs to shorten a drive shaft, why not just go to a used auto parts emporium (junkyard) and get one from a donor?
