ckjeep Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 help!! my 88 4.0 comanche was clogging fuel filters in about 10 miles. i bought a new gas tank. when changing the tank i replaced the fuel pump but the sending unit was in really bad shape. does anyone know where a mj sending unit can be purchased? i know the xj is different but can it be made to work? what have yall done in this situation as i really want my gas gauge to work
88whitemanche Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 They don't make the sending units for the Comanches anymore...you would have to either buy one from a member on here or find one at the junkyard... Or there's a website that they rebuild these units but the wait time is long....
ckjeep Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 yea i didnt think you could buy new ones. i have senn them advertised to fit mjs but they are xj sending units.is there a way to make an xj unit work ? what is the difference?
88whitemanche Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 The height difference... If you install an xj one iirc it will not go to the bottom of the tank and it'll be short 2-3"...
HOrnbrod Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Actually the XJ and MJ senders are mirror images of each other and the baffles in the MJ fuel tanks contact the XJ senders. OP, contact Akula69 (Jake), a forum member. He should have some rebuilt fuel senders.

Test Guy Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Did you locate a good sending unit? I am doing he same search. Wanted to see what was out there before I bought a new stock tank. I may jus try repairing mine. What pump did you buy or are you using?
64 Cheyenne Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 As time goes by and these things are becoming increasingly hard to find (especially HO ones) be aware that there is always the option of converting to a Dakota tank and sender. Search is your friend, pretty sure there is a write up here somewhere.
ckjeep Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 bought a rebuilt sending unit from akula69[forum member] , a new gas tank from napa auto parts and i am using a bosch fuel pump. love the bosch pump it is super quiet. truck had an airtex pump before and it sounded like an airplane trying to take off lol
