... so will any 91 and following 2.5 and all the wiring etc from any jeep work in my 87 comanche 4x2 manual tranny, or should it be only another comanche or a cherokee? :???:

I don't think you need to swap the block and head, just the intake and make a plug for the old EGR port in the exhaust manifold. Then all engine and dash wiring and instrument cluster. You may need the HVAC box as well if it is a different style. You can get all this from an MJ or an XJ. The issue though with the XJ would be adapting the front harness to the rear harness and MJ lights. There is a write up about that somewhere. Youll also need a new fuel pump for the higher fuel pressure of the later system.

I'm working on a similar swap, I'm putting a 95 YJ 2.5l and harness in my MJ.

So far it looks like I can run the harness stand alone and I should be able to retain my stock guage cluster and cab wiring.

I will know more once I tear into everything.

That would be a help if only intake and wiring appropriate to it.  But, with 352,000 and one complete rebuild and then a need to sleeve one cyl, I may want to go with a complete swap. But, why a new instrument cluster?  Mine is now gauges, not lights, and has a tach. Don't remember year I got it from.

I say cluster because it would match all other exusting electronics and be plug and play. You need to change the dash wiring anyways, so it probably won't play well with the old cluster.

I am planning to use the stock senders and a pass through electronic speed sensor so I should be able to keep my renix guage cluster.

Looks like I only need to hook up about 5 wires to make the YJ harness run the engine stand alone.
