benjy_26
Hello everyone. In my ongoing quest to make my MJ more appropriate for my usage, I have decided that the AX4 that's in there won't be in there for long. I want an overdrive gear and an external slave cylinder, so I'm looking at AX5's, prefferebly with n attached t case so I can do my 4wd conversion at the same time. Is there a particular year or vehicle I should be looking for to donate it's parts to my Manche? Thanks in advance!
dasbulliwagen
The internal and external slave bell housing for the ax4 and ax5 are the same. I found this out recently when I did the same to mine. I'm not sure if its possible to find the conversion parts though without a full donor. You'll need the slave spacer and studs. The throwout arm and pivot. The slave plastic pivot that goes on the end of the slave pushrod. I might be missing a part but that will be close enough to get you started. Might just be easier to find a complete donor. benjy_26
I was afraid of that. The 2.5 Jeeps arent very common in my area. If I'm going to need a full donor, it's actually easier for me to do an AX15 swap. :-\
mvusse
AX15 will not bolt onto a 2.5 without the unicorn of bellhousings: dodge dakota 2.5/stick. Since this transmission is a lot longer you will also need new front and rear driveshafts.
Jeep Driver
Look for the 94XJ SE as a donor.......they are out there......will have the 4.10 front axle too.

I'll keep an eye out, but in my area, 4 banger Heeps that were NOT YJ's are the Unicorns. lol. I know that a YJ has a different mounting scheme for the T-Case than the XJ/MJ. Is it possible to re-clock it to work in a MJ, or is it even a real isdue? As far as the Dodge 2.5-tp-AX15 bellhousing, they are fairly rare in the US.... But in Mexico, they can be had much more easily. Living a stone's throw away from the border does have its advantages. ;)
benjy_26
Oh, btw, there's also a rumor of a 'yota tranny fitting the Jeep AX5 bell. I think its a W55 or W58 tranny. What's my point, you ask? Well, the tranny in question was often found behind a 7MGTE in Supras, giving it good power handling characteristics, is fairly light, and it is said that it can be mated to the Yota t-cases fairly easily. If I can't get to where I need to be using Jeep/Chryco parts, I have no compunctions about putting a bit of Toy in my Manche. I'll keep y'all posted on my findings. mvusse
The AX15 is closely related to the Toyota R154. Aside from that I don't know about any other Toyota/Jeep similarities.

I seem to recall that the W55 or W58 trannys were rumored to fit some AX bellhousings. I believe some investigation is in order.... To the JY, Robin! :D
