yxmj
Got a smoken deal on a 1998 XJ sport…..took it knowing it needed a head gasket. I have changed about half a dozen 4L head gaskets already...... and on all the biggest pain in the A** was the bottom intake/exhaust manifold bolts. I have a cherry picker so I was toying with the idea of leaving the intake/exhaust bolted up, unbolting the exhaust at the lower flange and pulling it as a whole. Any good…..bad ……or ugly ……suggestions or experiences?
JeepcoMJ
12" 3/8" extension with a shallow 3/8" drive 9/16" socket and several different lengths of ratchets. Never done it the way you want to...my way works well with no issues. Tighten center exhaust bolt and rear bolt for it before putting intake on, and your troubles should be over. My complaint is driver rear head bolt on the newer 12 point head bolts...stupid stud on top negates the ability to fit any socket of any sort along with a torque wrench in there because of the firewall pinch weld being in the way. gogmorgo
Edited: never mind... didn't realize you were just talking about the head...
