Strokermjcomanche
Check your battery terminal connections clean an tighten them check for a whitish green powder and if it's evident clean with battery terminal cleaner or baking soda and water use rubber gloves and protect yourself from the corrosion when cleaning
Blue88Comanche
also check the ground connection on the engine block, it may need to be cleaned as well. Did you get a new battery recently?
Reedtech
brand new battery, cleaned terminals with baking soda and water yesterday when I tested it but had to go to work shortly after. I'm going to Napa or Advance to get new terminals. First I'm going to check the Neutral safety switch and engine ground. It is a no start, no crank problem I determined. Ill come back with updates
Timeless
Is the battery charged?
Reedtech
yes its charged. I just put brand new wire terminals on both cables, also srubbed the copper wire with a wire brush. It was seriously corroded and most likely the cause until I found out the spark plug firing order is inccorect, the number one is always to the left of a screw on the distributor cap, mine is not. Also the hayne book doesnt say which direction the distributor cap is facing from the block so i don't know where to start.
87Chief
is the motor free? turn the crank to make sure. Also, make sure your terminals are connected to the correct ones..
Strokermjcomanche
The firing order would not cause a 1 click problem . When the truck was parked was anything messed with until you started working on it ? If not I would pull one plug and one wire at a time and change them all which I know you changed them but if you put them in a different order it will not run. Being you have a Haynes manual locate tdc ( top dead center ) and make sure that the distibutor is at #1 cylinder and run the firing order correctly

Reedtech
Do you remember how you changed the wires/ plugs? Do you know if you're getting spark / fuel ? One wire at a time off the old caps layout onto the new one as per instructions. I do not know, i have limited tools, how can I check?
Strokermjcomanche
Ok to check for spark. if you still have one of you're old spark plugs Disconnect the spark plug wire at the spark plug on any cylinder , plug an old plug into into any wire that you disconnected and ground the spark plug base to a head bolt . Have a friend handy, take a pair of insulated pliers and hold the base of the plug to the head bolt while your buddy cranks it over. You should see a bluish spark if you don't see a spark let us know then well go from there
Strokermjcomanche
Worth mentioning be sure to stay clear of the clutch / cooling fans while cranking the engine
