88 2.5L Tbi Efan And Temp Sensor

Recommended Posts

I just finished modifying and installing my Renix harness and am very pleased with the results. Unfortunately all that work seems to only be noticable at idle so I have begun searching for my next upgrade and want the biggest bang for my $.

After some searching it seems like alot of people have swapped in an Efan from a taurus for relatively little money and completely removed the metal fan and clutch.

My 2.5 has the idiot light temp sensors still in it. I have a set of full gauges in it but havent tackled the sensor issue yet.

I would like to pull parts from the jy for this so what vehicle am I looking for a temp sensor in?

Second question is for those who have done the Efan swap- besides cooling more efficiently were there any other noticable improvements? (MPG, butt dyno, etc)

I have the 2.5 also.

Always looking for every bit of power and MPG.

Less wear on the pump.

No shroud.

No fan noise.

I can service my belt or pump without removing fan/shroud.

Efan can't bite my fingers.

Efan's pull is constant regardless of engine RPM.

Faster warm up on cold days.

I have it on a manual switch too, if I think it's running warm I can just turn it on full time.

Another advantage is I can let it run while the engine is off if it's hot and I want to work on it.......cools down completely in about 5 minutes.

For most of my driving I don't need a fan anyway.

Not a single disadvantage to an Efan.

Maybe not for the 2.5. But for the 4.0, it requires two Efans, or maybe three depending on the conversion. This equates to more amp draw and a 2nd fan controller. Many ways to do it, but it's a little more work and expense for a reliable and efficient system. But I agree, Efans are better, and it's well worth the conversion in either case.

With my new harness setup and external voltage regulator my alt is putting out about 14.5V steady- no change with headlights, ac, stereo amp and sub cranked up.

Will the draw on my alt really be that bad for a single e-fan run through a relay switch by a temp sensor?

Also what temp sensor can be pulled from the JY and are their different ways to install them? I read a thread on JF where a guy had his efan triggered by a chevy sensor wedged in the radiator. I'm looking to do something a bit less ghetto but the seeming simplicity has my head spinning with ideas qnd questions
