mjcanoe
Dakal, Radiator will work, upper r/hose was different, OEM ran it over the top of a/c comp., whereas older (91) ran it behind a/c comp. The a/c cond. was shaped differently, probably change in manufacturer. mjcanoe

Pete M
If I remember right, I think the speedo clips simply changed with the different eras. 84-86, 87-90, 91+.
mjcanoe
dakal, What year do you own? It may be that I have what you need or could @ least confirm what else might fit. mjcanoe
dakal
i have a 88mj with a transplanted ax15. can i just replace the clip at speedometer or does the whole thing need to be.
mjcanoe
dakal, speedo head is metal, retaining clip is plastic. 2 options I've seen work: 1) locate speedo cable @ inside of firewall/bulkhead & after seating cable on speedo head attach a small hose clamp to cable w/slight tension on cable. 2) clean metal @ speedo head & inside of cable clip w/ "brake cleaner" using a Q-tip & then apply a light coat of Grey or black "RTV" to speedo head & let cure. A combo of both works also. Same vintage xj will also work. If you have C/C, just get upper cable, if not then you can use C/C cable w/ sensor left unplugged of course. mjcanoe
dakal
thanks, i took the cluster loose, not sure whats missing. i'll take your suggestion and look at the cable to see where is the best place on mine to secure it.
mjcanoe
dakal, Upper cable had 2 tension lock tabs that could be compressed to release from head. These would break @ times due to age, etc. they had a "hook end" that locked into groove on the speedo head. You could, if you had $ upgrade to later year xj head & cable. Just a suggestion. mjcanoe
Eagle
The '88 speedometer didn't use a retaining clip. The upper end of the cable has an integral white nylon fitting that snaps onto the speedo head and is released (as noted above) by squeezing the outer ring to release the locking tabs. mjcanoe
Eagle, thanks for clarification. As soon as I read it, I remembered, just had "clips" in mind. mjcanoe
