relyt120
So Today I decided to run a switch and relay to power the fan independent of the factory setup, just for a quick easy fix. Took her around the block to make sure everything went as expected...the fan works but now my tach and voltmeter don't work! Talk about one step forward and two steps back.... My speedometer and gas gauge still work as they did before and I even have back lights on the cluster. Any ideas? The truck is an 89 4.0l Manual 2wd. 88whitemanche
Check this thread out and look for a pic that hornbrod posted...look for that ground wire and tighten it tight or reposition it...and let us know if that was the solution http://comancheclub.com/topic/39824-electrical-gremlins-on-an-88-jeep-cherokee/?fromsearch=
onlyinajeep726
Check your fuses. Also, where is the power for the fan override switch feeding power from? If you ran it from some random socket on the fuse panel, you may have pulled power through an adjacent fuse (perhaps the one that provides power to the instrument panel) and in doing so, pulled to much current and shorted something out. I've done that with fog lights on my former '96 XJ... Those fuse panels have some issues...

I ran a relay straight off the battery and used a switched ground to control it, so I'm thinking that the dash ground that 88whitemanche mentioned may be the issue, though i did remove a no longer used wire from the fuse block and may have knocked something loose...
