FrankTheDog
Was at the junkyard today and there was a 1991 Cherokee with the 4.0 HO with the Renix era cooling system. It looked like it was an early 91 with an October build date. Has anybody seen this before? I thought they changed the cooling system at the same time as the change to HO. Eagle
I thought they changed the cooling system at the same time as the change to HO. They did. Are you certain it's a 1991 model? Is there a computer mounted to the left inner fender, next to the air intake box?

FrankTheDog
I believe it was marked 10/14/90 on the computer. The rear hatch has the 4.0 Litre High Output emblem. I sent a picture of the engine bay and rear hatch to Eagle. The computer is there next to the airbox. The fuel rail has the HO regulator. There is no rats nest of vacuum lines by the power steering pump. Has a nice wiring job instead of wires running randomly about the engine bay like a renix. The windshield washer tank is mounted next to the brake cylinder like the earlier XJ's. PDC is mounted on left fender. It definitely is an HO motor with HO controls and wiring. I'll get more info from it the next time I go there. I've seen enough of both to know the difference, hence the question.
Eagle
Obviously a rare, hybrid prototype. I think you should buy it and restore it. It'll be the only one in captivity, and worth big bucks. Then somebody will convert it to the open cooling system and it'll instantly be worth $75 as scrap.
Crash
Maybe someone didn't know any better and installed the closed cooling system in it?
