Rear Lift ?

Hey guys i've heard a lot of different things about lift and i need some opinions from here. i've got 3" coil spacers coming for the front. In your opinion, what should i do to the rear to level it out ? Its an 87 Comanche 4x4

Measure the way it sits now, add 3" to the front and see how much you will need to go in the rear. We can go from there.

I'm thinking about doing the same but 2" in both the front and back. For the back, I am using adjustable shackles. It may be tough to get the full 3" but longer shackles will do the trick.

I don't think i could get 2 inches from shackles....and I'm thinking that would level it....I'm leaning towards add a leaf..

for every inch a shackle is longer than stock, the truck will go up 1/2".  so to get 3" from a shackle, it would need to be around 11" long or twice as long as a stock one, which is not a good thing.

 

to the OP, what else are you doing to the front?  you're going to want more than just pucks to get the suspension/brakelines/shocks/etc right.

 

in the rear you can go with an 3" AAL (which, due to differences between MJs and XJs that the aftermarket doesn't seem to understand, generally lift around 2" in an MJ).

yeah I realized the shocks would need to be longer, but what about the brake lines....you can move the bracket on the line or something ?

Thinking about saving up for rough countrys 3 " lift for 255.00....but wifey gets a new fridge before i can spend that much on my toy...so it might take awhile....ok I'm back to AAL and keep the pucks

I guess you can try.  I've never had much luck trying to rebend a 20 year old hard brakeline.

 

 

2" lift is a better choice if you're really low on funds.  2" spacers and and shackles (the 2" chevy drops) and you're done. :thumbsup:

When my Rear gave out, I was planning to do a Full 4" Lift.

I had the Coil Springs, Shocks, Brake lines, Steering parts. Everything for the Front, already at home.

Plus I had just gotten a pair of axles from a small Wagoneer (planned on Rebuilding)

Then I got Lucky, a buddy wanted to Trade a Front 6" Lift package for my 4"

SUA to SOA swap gives about 6" lift.

yeah but I already bought the 3 " pucks....unless I cut an inch off of em....which is an idea....stick em in the vice and cut em off

I put some aftermarket wheels and 31's on and they rub when i turn sharp....so your idea quick fix sounds good

I know my front end sags about an inch so if you have the same deal with the 3" pucks and 2" shackles it will add some lift and level it out but it all depends on the truck

Stock most of  trucks have a rake to them. I ran 1.75" spacers in front without doing anything in the rear and it looked good. I then ran the spacers plus 4.5" lift springs for a total of 6.25" in front and SOA with the stock springs in the rear giving my 5.5" and it sat mostly level.

 

1.75" spacer by itself on the front, or a 3" spacer front and either add-a-leaf or lift shackles in the rear should look pretty good.

don't forget that changes in height can necessitate a frontend alignment.  :thumbsup:

well cut the pucks off to 2 " and got em in....still rubs a little at sharp turn....but looks way better...almost perfectly level...maybe just a hair low in the rear....got some shackles for the back from autozone...may put those in

its 1/8th of an inch higher in the front than the rear after 2"s of lift....close enough for me I'm takin the shackles back
