87MJTIM
I finally was able to get the AX15 and transfer case from a 90 XJ I've eyeing for some time. I pulled the cross member and other misc parts - including a full gauge cluster. After reading other threads in the Tech section, I may need to go back and pull the trans case shift linkage. Geonovast
Very nice score. And yes, go back and get the linkage. You WILL need everything. Might as well grab the oil and temp senders too to go with that cluster.
87MJTIM
I currently have a full gauge. So, I don't need to get the two senders. I just thought having another gauge was a good for a spare. I will go back and get more parts soon.
64 Cheyenne
don't forget the body side Tcase bracket, you WILL need it. Second the suggestion on pulling the sending units, even if for spares.
Bornindesert
Hey nice score on the drivetrain, are you converting or upgrading?
87MJTIM
I guess when I go back I will get the sending units. I was trying to pull the fuse block, but had to focus on the trans/transfer because of time.
87MJTIM
Hey nice score on the drivetrain, are you converting or upgrading? I have the BA 10 and it has been reliable (so far) with 261,000. I like to have spare parts just in case. ...of course, everything ha$ a price...
Bornindesert
I need to start learning more about the various transmissions. So the BA 10 is the Peugeot manual? And AX 15 is AMC?
87MJTIM
I need to start learning more about the various transmissions. So the BA 10 is the Peugeot manual? And AX 15 is AMC? Yes, the BA10 is the Peugeot. AMC put this in the 87, 88 and part of 89 with the 4.0 engines. There were complaints about the trans and not liked by Jeep owners. Halfway throught 89, Jeep (now Chrysler) switched the the AX15 for the 4.0. This trans, by many Jeep owners, is considered better and more desirable. I currently plan on keeping my BA10 and have the AX15 as a spare if I ever need to replace the BA10.
Bornindesert
So my 88 has the BA10 4.0 231 combination based on the production years for the Peugeot. The PO said he did the clutch and slave, it's good for now while I figure out the build I want to do. I came across a 95 Rubion 4:1 tcase the other day, got me thinking what would work between it and the stock 4.0l. Thanks for the info.
