i have no end of fun with my MJ  ...but now have 3 of them to work on now ....my new trouble is one 2.5 liter manual tranny 2 wheel drive 1987 ..runs great but at times backfires 2 different ways exhaust and intake not at same time  you can at 45 mph and shutter happens ,backfire TBI side ....decelerating bang .... word is getting around i fix them but damn parts are getting to be hard to get .......

2 things come to mind. The engine control grounding system and poor signal through the C101 connector. Click on the link in my signature and read the write-ups on ground refreshing and C101 cleaning. Takes less than an hour to do both.
