Xj Aal Question

Recommended Posts

The XJ AAL is usually too short to be of any reasonable advantage for the longer MJ springs, Usually only about 16".

Look for a "long" or "full length" one.  Better yet find a spring pack from an S-10 and cut off the eyes to use in the MJ spring pack.

So even the full length AAL will only add about half the advertised lift?  If my end goal is 3 inches of lift, a 3'' XJ AAL with a 1.5" shackle should sit nicely?

Why not just get a proper MJ AAL and be done with it?

They're about the same price as the XJ iirc

Well I really liked the price of that XJ kit, but, in light of new developments, I may be going a different direction.

How much lift will the S-10 main leaf add?

Where are you getting the shackle?  An XJ lift really won't do much for an MJ since factory MJ shackles are much longer than XJ ones.

Ugh... I'm starting to get a headache trying to figure out what parts I can swap over from the XJ to the MJ.

Now it looks like I'm going to end up doing an SOA and a little more lift up front.  I just got a call back from a guy selling a Ford 8.8 for my XJ, which means I'll have a Chrysler 8.25 laying around.  As long as that doesn't fall through, I'll just be getting some new perches and shock mounts to put the 8.25 in the MJ...

Hmmmm...   Would stock XJ shackles combined with an SOA setup get me the amount of lift I'm looking for?  Would I run into clearance issues with the shorter shackle?

My Blue truck is lifted in the back with a 3" XJ AAL and a 1.5" shackle if you need a reference ;)

You got pictures around here somewhere?  My goal is to put on the 32's (275/75/16) I have sitting in the corner of my garage...

My bad ComancheKid... Just noticed the links in your signature.  So just to be clear, you've got 3'' XJ AAL, 1.5'' XJ shackles, and 2'' rusty's coils?  What size tire is that, and are your flares in the stock location?  That's pretty much the look/size I'm going for, just with Bushwacker flares to fit the 32's

My '91 had an AAL and shackles in the back with a 3" kit up front and it sat level. Had 31's on it with Canyon wheels, 32's would have fit fine with stock flares and no trimming. Had to put a longer bolt in for the steering bump stop or else they would rub the LCAs on full turn, but otherwise fine. I didn't do any off road stuff though so wasn't worried about stuffing them, otherwise a bigger lift or trimming would have been needed. Since Bushwackers require trimming, you would be fine for 32's for sure. Unless you already have the Bushwackers, you may want to check out the flares in the vendor section. Same basic thing only cheaper. 31's also can be fit on stock height, so even a 1.5" lift would fit 32's unless you need to stuff them.
