GirsMJ86
My wipers still work fine (intermittent) but turn signals do not. Does the entire stalk in the column have to be replaced or is the turn signal function separate from the wipers? Either way I know it isn't going to be fun, but at least I don't have a tilt wheel since I bet those make it worse. Also after turning my running lights/headlights off, the lights on the right side (passenger) of the truck stay on. The headlight is off but running lights and reverse light stays on. I'm thinking bad headlight knob, and I think I have a spare one somewhere I can swap in, but I wanted to hear what others thought first.
ParadiseMJ
Two things. Whole thing might be fixed with a new headlight switch. Have you checked your flasher on the fuse block under the dash (round, relay type thing)...there should be two, one for blinkers, one for emergency flashers. Swap them and see if one works for the other.
GirsMJ86
I've not gotten around to messing with the headlight switch yet, but the turn signal issue was the flasher module. I swapped them and the turn signals started working and hazards did not. So I'll grab a new one of those, I guess I just assumed the worst since it was sitting for so long and home to a squirrel or something. I did notice only the front lights worked as turn signals, so either the previous owner has the wrong bulbs in it or something else. I'll pick up some new bulbs as well and see if that gets the corner lights flashing as well or not. Thanks Paradise, I completely forgot about those modules until you said something. GirsMJ86
Well new bulbs are in but the corner lights still don't flash. I could have sworn on my other MJs the corner lights flashed opposite the front lights, am I mistaken in thinking that?
ftpiercecracker1
Ground check? Bad socket? Quite common and it can wreak havoc. Did you check the headlight harness plug? its on the driver side between the airbox and the body of the truck. The headlight harness itself has several crimps that might have separated/corroded. I went through a week of absolute hell trying to figure my running light issues. Here is the turn signal flash sequence. . . . HL off: Everything flashes together, all at the same time. Depending on which blinker is engaged. HL on: The front corner and front lower (lights just below your HL) flash opposite one another Does that help? GirsMJ86
Doubt it is ground since only issue I'm having now is the turn signals up front not flashing correctly. Cleaned the sockets and they work fine as pure running lights. The dang things will not flash though, only the front lowers flash. With or without the headlights on. Thanks for confirming they are suppose to flash though, I couldn't remember for sure. Guess I will have to do some major digging sometime when I have the chance or get my cousin to take a look since he has more free time than me. The wiring in the engine bay looks awful, when they rebuilt the engine and stuck the EFI kit on the thing everything was just spliced and hacked together with horrible wire routing. I mean, none of my gauges work except maybe the speedo, but since the slave is out I can't drive it so I'm not even sure if it does or not. :wall:
